Important ABA Book Buyer's Handbook News

Since the launch of the ABA Book Buyer's Handbook online at handbook.bookweb.org/ in April 2002, more than 700 publishers, distributors, and wholesalers have changed or added information to their company data. The ability of publishers to update their company information at any time and add short-term special offers, as well as the inclusion of active links to publishers' Web sites, have made the online Handbook an invaluable resource for booksellers.

Taxing Book Sales to Fund Libraries Considered in Rhode Island

In an unfortunate illustration of taxing Peter to pay Paul, on May 1, members of the Rhode Island Senate proposed an additional one percent sales tax on all books sold in Rhode Island by any retailer. According to the amendment offered by State Senators Rhoda Perry, Frank Ciccone, and Juan Pichardo, the tax generated would be used by cities and towns exclusively for free public libraries.
