Before relocating to Winona from Seattle, Livingston was the regional manager of 12 electronics stores, the largest of which was 52,000 square feet. Now master of Book Shelf's single 3,000-square-foot space, he is fulfilling his long-held desire to operate a small-town bookstore.
To celebrate Poetry Month and to make an important art form more accessible to children, Sourcebooks is sponsoring a poetry-reading contest at stores with Book Sense. The contest is open to children ages 4 to 11 who are filmed reading poems from Sourcebooks' Poetry Speaks to Children, edited by Elise Paschen and others, at Book Sense bookstores. The winning reader will receive a $50 Book Sense gift certificate, and the bookstore will receive a $500 Sourcebooks credit.
Northshire Bookstore in Manchester Center, Vermont, has won the 14th annual Bookseller of the Year Award from Publishers Weekly. The bookstore celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and is owned by Ed and Barbara Morrow.
