In an effort to take advantage of Denver's burgeoning suburban market, Tattered Cover Book Store will be opening a third location, in Highlands Ranch, a southwestern Denver suburb. "We're expanding into a really growing market there," said Cathy Langer, buyer for Tattered Cover and an ABA Board member. "We've been looking long and hard for just the right location, and we're really excited this has worked out."

The lease for the approximately 22,000-square-foot space, which is currently under construction, was signed on Tuesday, July 27. Langer noted that the new Highlands Ranch store will have ample parking and is situated in "what developers are calling a town center.... It's a whole new shopping development."

One of the key reasons for opening a third store in Highlands Ranch is "Denver's population expansion is occurring in the suburbs, for the most part," Langer explained. "[Highlands Ranch] is a great neighborhood with lots of potential. [It] ... is continuing to grow at a breathtaking pace, and we want to be a part of that."

Tattered Cover's two other bookstores are in the LoDo and Cherry Creek areas of Denver. Last week, there had been rumors and speculation in local media that Tattered Cover was considering closing its Cherry Creek store to open a second location in another area. Langer stressed to BTW that those rumors are not true, and the Cherry Creek store will remain open.
