Booksellers have until Wednesday, July 31, to register at a discounted rate for one of two IndieCommerce Institutes (ICI) being offered by the American Booksellers Association this fall. The ICI programming is designed to help booksellers more effectively operate their e-commerce websites to take advantage of the growing number of consumers who realize the importance of supporting local indie bookstores. Both ICIs will feature a Main Session that will address the needs of most users and an Advanced Seminar appropriate to very experienced users in addition to moderated panel discussions, a Kobo update, and lunch.

IndieCommerce users who register by July 31 for either the September 19 ICI in conjunction with the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance trade show in New Orleans or the October 2 ICI in San Francisco in conjunction with the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association show will qualify for the early bird rate.

The fee for booksellers registering before August 1 will be $99 per attendee for the Main Session and $130 per attendee for the Advanced Seminar. Beginning August 1, the registration fee will be $120 for the Main Session and $150 for the Advanced Seminar. Attendance at each institute is capped at 75 participants, and registration is limited to three booksellers per company. Registration for both institutes closes September 4, and all registration fees are nonrefundable.

The Main Session will include a new feature overview; programming that focuses on order processing, custom order status, custom products, and report generation through views; and design tips to improve a store’s site.

The Advanced Seminar is intended to facilitate a group discussion among advanced users about their work supporting their store sites. Enrollment in the seminar is limited to one attendee per store. IndieCommerce staff will evaluate information provided by each registrant and will assign Advanced Seminar participants.

The ICI day will begin and end with plenary sessions for all attendees, and moderated panel discussions will look at topics ranging from staffing requirements and workflows to best practices for promoting an e-commerce website.

IndieCommerce staff will also be available the day before each institute for individualized one-on-one meetings, and the evening before the start of each ICI will feature an opening reception.

Booksellers with questions regarding ICI programming should contact ABA Member Technology Director Neil Strandberg.
