PNBA Announces 2007 Book Awards Winners

The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA) has announced the winners of its 2007 Book Awards, which were selected by a committee of independent booksellers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. The committee chose six titles by Northwest authors from nearly 300 nominees.

To be eligible for the award, the author and/or illustrator must reside within the five-state PNBA region and the book must have been published in 2006.

The PNBA Book Awards will be presented on Friday, March 16, at the PNBA Spring Trade Show at the Portland, Oregon, Airport Holiday Inn.

The winners are:

  • The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig (Harcourt)

  • God Laughs & Plays: Churchless Sermons in Response to the Preachments of the Fundamentalist Right by David James Duncan (Triad Books/Triad Institute, Inc.)

  • Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin (Viking)

  • The Zero by Jess Walter (HarperCollins)

  • Long Journey: Contemporary Northwest Poets by David Biespiel, Editor (Oregon State University Press) -- William Stafford Memorial Poetry Award

  • Gemini Summer by Iain Lawrence (Delacourt Press Books for Young Readers) -- Children's Book Award
