Redstone, a large open-air development of residences, offices, and retail establishments in Park City, Utah, is looking for an experienced, independent bookseller to open a store in the heart of the commercial activity. The center, which will be fully operational by the fall, is home to a variety of businesses -- some local, some national chains. Bed Bath & Beyond, PetCo, Wild Oats Natural Marketplace, and the Redstone 8 Cinema, are up and running. Also operating, or in the works, are a variety of restaurants, an art gallery, and clothing boutiques -- a mixture that would cater to the affluent Park City locals, who now must travel to Salt Lake City for a similar shopping experience.

The closest independent store is Dolly's Bookstore, a small shop on Main Street in downtown Park City, the heavily touristed area of the fashionable ski resort. Redstone, located away from the downtown in a district of factory outlets, may draw some tourists, but is designed for residents of the greater Park City area.

Matt Swain, a representative of the Boyer Company, the leasing agents for the Redstone Project, spoke to BTW about the possibilities for a bookstore in the development. "An independent bookstore would fit very well in this development," he said. "People in this area are trendy and like to have localized shops and businesses specific to Park City. We have a local coffee and bagel shop that is interested in partnering with a bookstore. We want to create a location for people to gather -- a business where the owner has a relationship with employees and customers. We have a few possible locations available, ranging from 6,000 square feet to as large as 18,000 square feet. There could be room for clothing and toys -- I've heard of a bookstore with a cooking area for demonstrations."
