Starting in mid-October, Bookselling This Week will be accepting .jpg and .gif banner ads from advertisers. The change in ad formats is part of a revamping of the American Booksellers Association's e-mail newsletter, also scheduled to launch in mid-October.

"With our new look, publishers and vendors will be able showcase their products in a colorful, interactive format," said Dan Cullen, director of ABA's information department. "A growing number of advertisers have asked for the option of using banner ads, and we're happy to be able to deliver this option to them."

Bookselling This Week has an open rate of 90 percent among its target audience of independent booksellers, and it reaches more than 13,000 subscribers each week. With an in-house staff of reporters, BTW is the voice of independent bookselling, and it covers bookselling and publishing news not found anywhere else on the web. In mid-October, BTW will unveil format changes that will create an even more user-friendly experience for its readership.

Bookselling This Week will accept both banner and vertical (also known as skyscraper) ad submissions. Banner ad size requirements are: 440 pixels (w) x 125 pixels (h). Skyscraper ads should be 160 pixels (w) x 600 pixels (h). Ads should be submitted to Sarah Rettger at [email protected] and David Grogan at [email protected], including a link and a RGB image in either .jpg or .gif format, saved at 72 dpi. The maximum size is 100 KB. In addition, advertisers who want their ads to appear when a recipient elects to print out a full version of BTW must also provide a Word version of the ad, using formatted text only.

Beginning with the October 18 issue, the deadline for all ads will be noon on the Friday prior to the issue in which the ad will run.
