Last Chance: Share Your Children’s Institute Backlist Book Swap Pick Now

All ABC Children’s Institute (Ci5) attendees planning to participate in the Backlist Book Swap Party, which kicks off the institute on Wednesday, April 5, should let ABA know right away which favorite kids’ book they’ll be swapping.

The Welcome Reception and Backlist Book Swap Party will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Powell’s City of Books in downtown Portland, Oregon.

All Children’s Institute registrants — booksellers, publishers, and guests — are invited to participate in the Backlist Book Swap. Titles to swap can include board books, young adult novels, or anything in between, so long as they are at least five years old and still in print.

The giver should also include a bookmark with their contact information, so the person who picks up the book knows who recommended it.

Anyone who picked up their book at the last minute on the Bookstore Tours, or those picking up their title at Powell’s ahead of the reception, can fill out this form to submit their title or find an ABA staffer on-site at Powell’s to have it scanned in.

Attendees should let ABA know as soon as possible which book they will be bringing. Following the Children’s Institute, ABA will supply a full list of the books shared at the Backlist Book Swap, along with information about who brought each title.

Previous Backlist Book Swap events have generated robust lists of hundreds of backlist favorites. Booksellers can browse lists from the Backlist Book Swaps at the 2016 Winter Institute, the 2016 Children’s Institute, and the 2017 Winter Institute.
