Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is changing its terms regarding retail payment, effective June 1.

Retail payment terms will change from net 30 days from the date of invoice to net 90 days from the date of invoice.

These enhanced terms (exclusive of distribution centers) give booksellers an extended amount of time in which books can remain on shelves before invoices come due.

Retail distribution centers will maintain the standard net 60 days payment term.

Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Laurie Brown said of the change, “Recognizing that books must stay on shelves to allow for store promotions and discovery by readers, HMH is supporting this effort with enhanced payment terms for our retail bookselling partners.”
