Book Editors Online & Unscripted Webcasts Begin September 16

On Tuesday, September 16, the Association of American Publishers (AAP) will launch the first of its Book Editors Online & Unscripted live web casts featuring the top editors in the industry previewing their Winter 2009 titles. Retailers, media, and industry professionals who register for the web casts will have an opportunity to download chapter excerpts of the titles being presented in advance of the editors' presentations. AAP is expecting the presentations will spotlight some of the most talked-about and eagerly awaited titles for Winter 2009, with new authors taking center stage.

GLBA Announces Award Winners

The Great Lake Booksellers Association (GLBA) recently announced this year's Great Lakes Book Award winners:

Fiction: Keeping the House by Ellen Baker (Random House)
General: The Third Coast by Ted McClelland (Chicago Review Press)
Children's Chapter Book: Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis (Scholastic Press)
Children's Picture Book: Toy Boat by Randall de Seve, illustrated by Loren Long (Philomel)

In addition, Partners Book Distributing, Inc. was named the recipient of the Voice of the Heartland Award, recognizing a lifetime contribution to regional books.

The awards will be presented at a luncheon on Friday, October 3, during the GLBA Fall Trade Show in Dearborn, Michigan (see related story).

Sen. John McCain's selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate has touched off an unexpected demand for her biography, Sarah -- How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska's Political Establishment Upside Down, by Kaylene Johnson. To meet the sharp increase in orders, Epicenter Press has relaunched the book in a trade paper edition utilizing Ingram's Lightning Source print-on-demand technology.
