Andy Perham, Oren Teicher, and Michael Tucker

Books Inc., which has stores throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, is finishing up construction on its Compass Books location in Terminal 3 of the San Francisco International Airport, where it has had a longtime presence. While Terminal 3 underwent a complete renovation, Compass Books has operated out of a temporary store. There is a second Compass Books location in Terminal 2.

While in California on business earlier this week, ABA CEO Oren Teicher stopped in to see the progress being made on the store. Teicher visited with Books Inc. co-owner Michael Tucker and Andy Perham, Books Inc.’s director of operations.

The new Compass Books in Terminal 3 is slated to open later this month.

MainStreet BookEnds in Warner, New Hampshire, hosted presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Saturday, October 31. The event was moved across the street to the Warner Town Hall to accommodate the crowds, said store owner Katharine Nevins, who introduced Sanders to the audience.

During the 90-minute meeting, the Independent senator from Vermont took questions from those inside the hall, as well as from some of the more than 300 people who gathered outside.

The store, which has a 17-year history of bringing presidential candidates to Warner, has developed a slogan for its continued ability to offer a platform to politicians: “The Road to the White House leads right through MainStreet.”

Bank Street Book Nook Owner Wins Mayoral Seat

David Gronbach, co-owner of New Milford, Connecticut’s Bank Street Book Nook, won the mayoral race in New Milford on Tuesday, reported the News-Times. Gronbach defeated Republican Pat Murphy, who has been mayor for 12 years, in a vote of 3,490 to 2,986.

“I want to thank all of my supporters and all the people who worked so hard despite being told we couldn’t change anything,” Gronbach said. “In the end, our vision of hope and positivity for the future of New Milford took the day.”

This is the first elected position for Gronbach, who graduated from Pace Law School in 2001 and currently works alongside his wife, Vanessa, at Gronbach Law, in addition to owning the bookstore.

Greenlight Bookstore to Open Second Location

Brooklyn, New York’s Greenlight Bookstore is planning to open a new, 2,100-square-foot location in the neighborhood of Prospect Lefferts Gardens, where earlier this fall it opened a pop-up shop at Play Kids toy store.

“All over the country, we see independent bookstores thriving when they are located in active and engaged communities,” said Rebecca Fitting, who owns the store with Jessica Stockton Bagnulo. “Our business is ready to grow, and our hope is that by opening a bookstore in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, we are contributing to the community in a positive, constructive way.”

The bookstore will offer books for both kids and adults, and it will have a basement space in which to house its offsite sales business. The store will open sometime in 2016.

Mystery Lovers Founders Create Review Site

Mary Alice Gorman and Richard Goldman, who founded Mystery Lovers Bookshop in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, in 1990, have launched a new website that follows their adventures in retirement.

“This website is a record of what we are reading, seeing, sharing, eating, and we will include much of our opinion, too. It is a new career without any deadlines, but there will be additions all the time,” Gorman and Goldman explained.

The website, www.revuzeit.com, features reviews of new and old books, plus links to purchase titles through Mystery Lovers, which has been owned since May by Natalie Sacco and Trevor Thomas. Gorman and Goldman also plan to blog and share photos from their trips and travels.

Gorman and Goldman announced their new venture at Mystery Lovers’ 25th anniversary celebration on October 31.
