Materials to promote the Reading Without Walls bingo-style challenge include a bingo card, bookmarks, a poster, a flier, a web banner, and awards certificates. Reading Without Walls bookmarks, courtesy of Macmillan Children’s Publishing, will be sent to stores in ABA’s Summer Children’s White Box mailing.

National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Gene Luen Yang started the Reading Without Walls program to celebrate reading and diversity by challenging children nationwide to read a book about a character who doesn’t look or live like them; read a book about a topic they don’t know much about; and/or read a book in a format that they don’t normally read for fun.

Macmillan Children’s has also created several other digital resources to help bookstores, schools, libraries, and comic shops celebrate Reading Without Walls this April, including an Activity Guide and a Digital Toolkit of images, which are sized for websites, social media pages, and e-newsletters.

Reading Without Walls is sponsored by Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, the Children’s Book Council, Every Child a Reader, and the Library of Congress.
