ABA Education logoThe American Booksellers Association is inviting booksellers at the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association Fall Trade Show to attend the education session “Understanding and Acting on Your ABACUS-15 Report” and to stop by to see ABA Senior Program Officer Joy Dallanegra-Sanger and Member Relationship Manager Nathan Halter on the show floor to learn about Indies First, Indies Introduce, the new Indie Next List e-newsletter program for store customers, and more. Booksellers who drop off a business card at the table will earn an extra chance to win a scholarship to attend Winter Institute 12 or the 2017 ABC Children’s Institute.

ABA will be presenting “Understanding and Acting on Your ABACUS-15 Report” on Saturday, October 22, at 3:00 p.m. Booksellers nationwide, in markets of all sizes, have found ABACUS to be an essential key to strategic and business planning, access to capital, negotiations with landlords, and much more. At this session, Dallanegra-Sanger and ABA Board Member John Evans, the co-owner of Diesel, A Bookstore will share information about ABACUS participation and will review top-line financial data from this year's report to demonstrate how booksellers can use the information to improve their business' performance. Booksellers are encouraged to come with questions.

There are still spaces available at ABA’s Principles of Bookstore Finance Workshop to be held on Wednesday, October 26, in South San Francisco, prior to the start of the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association Fall Discovery Show. Led by Robert Sindelar, managing partner of Third Place Books in Seattle, and ABA Chief Financial Officer Robyn DesHotel, this workshop is a 101-level program for ABA member booksellers looking for a better understanding of the financial operations of a bookstore. Registration is $85 per person and includes lunch. Sign up here for the workshop
