Registration for the American Booksellers Association's Day of Education and ticket sales for BEA Special Events are now open at www.bookexpoamerica.com.

The roster of BEA Special Events, which are open to all trade show registrants, was announced last week.

ABA's Day of Education, which will be held on Thursday, May 29, at Hotel ABA, is open exclusively to the owners and staff of ABA member bookstores.

In addition to registering for the trade show as ABA members, booksellers who wish to participate in the association's Thursday programming, including the breakfast and lunch events, must check off the appropriate boxes (these options appear during the registration process, following the "Registration Choices" page). There is no additional registration fee for the Day of Education.

Booksellers who have already registered for the trade show can access their registration on the BEA website to add special events and to register for ABA's Day of Education.

By registering for BEA as an ABA Member, booksellers can save up to $60 on trade show admission. Additional discounts are available to anyone who registers for the trade show before May 23. A three-day pass for ABA Bookstore Members who register by May 23 is $75; after the 23rd the price is $100. For a one-day pass before May 23, ABA member booksellers pay $40, compared to $55 afterwards. To receive the member discount, booksellers must use their ABA ID number. (Booksellers who don't know their ID number should contact ABA.)

ABA members will also be able to register for the trade show and the Day of Education via the BEA Registration Booklet, which is scheduled to mail in April.

Accommodations exclusively for ABA member booksellers at the 2008 Hotel ABA, The Renaissance Hollywood, are currently booked to capacity. To be put on a waiting list for the hotel, booksellers should contact Margaret Nafz at [email protected]. In the event there are cancellations, booksellers on the waiting list will be contacted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Booksellers who no longer need their Hotel ABA reservations should contact Nafz as soon as possible, so their rooms remain in the ABA block and can be assigned to another member.

There are other hotel options close by Hotel ABA; however, the association has not negotiated special rates with these hotels. ABA reminds booksellers to read a hotel's cancellation policy carefully before booking a room.

In addition to the Day of Education, Hotel ABA will be the site of several ABA- and publisher-sponsored special events, which will begin Wednesday, May 28. The BEA trade show will be held from Thursday, May 29, through Sunday, June 1, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
