NAIBA Offers D.C. Bus Tours & Bookstore Visit

The New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association (NAIBA) is once again offering special events open to BookExpo America attendees. Taking advantage of the show's location in Washington, D.C., NAIBA is sponsoring two bus tours that will visit many of the capital's most memorable sites. The first tour, leaving from the Washington Convention Center on Thursday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m., will include viewings and stops at the Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol Building, the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, Union Station, the Smithsonian Institute Mall, the White House, and the Old Executive Building.

The second tour will depart the Convention Center on Saturday, May 20, at 4:00 p.m. and will include the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the Roosevelt Memorial.

Tickets are $20 each and should be purchased through the BEA ticket order form. NAIBA will send each attendee a confirmation and schedule prior to BEA. Proceeds will benefit local literacy groups.

NAIBA is also inviting booksellers to visit Washington, D.C.'s Politics & Prose Bookstore & Coffeehouse on Wednesday, May 17, for an in-depth look at the store's operations. The staff of Politics & Prose will open the backroom door for a bird's-eye view of how the store operates.

The visit will begin at 2:00 p.m. with an overview of operations and a tour of the sales floor. The group will then split up to see how the staff handles receiving and returns, accounting, and other store operations. At 4:00 p.m., all visiting booksellers will regroup to hear how the store markets, communicates with customers, hosts events, and more. Participants are invited to stay for a 7:00 p.m. event featuring author David Maraniss (Clemente: The Passion and Grace of Baseball's Last Hero, S&S).
