In order to give more ABA member bookstores an opportunity to take advantage of the Spring 2014 Indies Introduce Debut Authors promotion, the deadline for selecting Indies Introduce titles has been extended to Friday, November 1.

Booksellers across the country have worked tirelessly to pick out the best and brightest of upcoming debuts for the spring selling season. This crop of 10 adult debut titles and 10 children’s New Voices picks was selected by indie booksellers doing what they do best: discovering and championing the best books possible to share with customers. Read the panelist reviews for each of the 20 titles to find out just how much booksellers love these books.

“Indies Introduce is such an exciting opportunity for indie bookstores, especially for those busy booksellers who are simply too busy to read every ARC that comes into their store,” said adult bookseller panelist Nancy Simpson-Brice of Book Vault in Oskaloosa, Iowa. “The ‘work’ of reading has already been done … and a complete, robust marketing campaign is in place. It’s almost like having a success guaranteed! A slam-dunk!”

As the third crop of Indies Introduce titles, these are bound to follow the path of the previous titles. Nearly every title from the fall Indies Introduce list has hit the Indie Next List after being praised by indie booksellers nationwide.

Additionally, several Indies Introduce titles have gone on to be nominated for major literary awards, including:

  • We Need New Names: A Novel, by NoViolet Bulawayo (Reagan Arthur Books): Shortlisted for the 2013 Man Booker Prize
  • A Constellation of Vital Phenomena: A Novel, by Anthony Marra (Hogarth): Longlisted for the 2013 National Book Award for Fiction
  • The Summer Prince, by Alaya Dawn Johnson (Arthur A. Levine Books): Longlisted for the 2013 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature
  • The UnAmericans, by Molly Antopol (W.W. Norton & Company): Honoree for the National Book Foundation’s 5 Under 35

The deadline for Indies Introduce Debut Authors has been extended to November 1 so that all bookstores can choose their titles for this great promotion. Stores must select eight of the 20 titles, which publish between January and May 2014, to market through in-store displays, in newsletters, and on store websites and social media.

Edelweiss has posted the list of Indies Introduce titles for easy ordering, and BookWeb’s Bookseller DIY features downloadable marketing and promotion materials.
