ABC Publishes 2010 New Voices List

The Association of Booksellers for Children this week unveiled its 2010 New Voices List, featuring outstanding debut books by authors for middle-grade and young-adult readers.

New Voices titles are featured on a downloadable flier and on shelf-talkers. ABC encourages stores to display the flier for customers to peruse and for frontline booksellers to us as a quick reference.

The New Voices titles were chosen by a committee of 10 ABC member booksellers from across the country. The committee was chaired by ABC President Elizabeth Bluemle of The Flying Pig Bookstore in Shelburne, Vermont.

NECBA Posts Children’s Book Reviews

The New England Children’s Booksellers Advisory Council has published its Interactive Fall Top Ten+ List and Full Fall Review online. “There is also a nifty IndieBound NECBA Fall Top Ten widget,” said NECBA Chair Kenny Brechner of Devaney, Doak & Garrett Booksellers in Farmington, Maine.

The NECBA lists, which are published bi-annually, identify new, high-quality middle-grade and young-adult fiction books.

Trafalgar Square Adds Six Publishers

Trafalgar Square Publishing, the IPG company that specializes in distribution in the U.S. of U.K. and Australian publishers, recently added the following publishers: Atlantic Books UK, London; Peter Owen Publishers, London; Beautiful Books, London; Bene Factum Publishing, London; Elliott & Thompson, London; and Pitch Publishing, Sussex.

Hachette Partners With NetGalley to Distribute Digital Galleys

The Hachette Book Group (HBG) announced this week that it will begin using NetGalley to distribute digital galleys and digital press kits (including video, audio, tour schedules, author Q&As, and photos) to reviewers, bloggers, media, booksellers, librarians, and educators.

HBG said that by using Net Galley it would be able to share secure, text-searchable, full-color digital galleys, which the reader can download onto a variety of e-readers, and it noted that NetGalley’s membership currently numbers 12,000 “professional readers.” Readers can register and use the site for free at www.netgalley.com.

HBG’s launch catalog on NetGalley includes new titles from Brad Meltzer, Lawrence Block, Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Darren Shan, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Don Winslow, Michael Koryta, Tom Holt, and Nic Sheff.

NPR Asks Booklovers What They Really Want

National Public Radio has begun a yearlong project to find out what booklovers really want. In an effort to expand and improve NPR’s books coverage, it’s encouraging listeners to complete an online survey that asks such questions as “What makes a book review worth reading? What type of books should NPR cover more? What do we write about too much? Who are you people, and what do you want?” Here is the survey.
