Binc Adds Funerals, Homelessness to Financial Assistance Program

The Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc) has announced the expansion of its financial assistance program to include homelessness prevention and funeral expenses. The two new categories were added this week based on booksellers’ responses to Binc’s recent book industry survey.

A bookseller who is currently homeless or facing imminent eviction from his residence can apply for a Homelessness/Eviction Prevention Grant. If approved, the grant can be used for security deposits, deposits for essential utilities, or application fees.  To help prevent homelessness, Binc will review requests quickly and confidentially.

When the cost of a funeral and burial causes an immediate financial emergency for a bookseller, the foundation will offer a grant to pay for the basic funeral and burial expenses of an immediate family member (spouse, same-sex domestic partner, child, stepchild, mother, father, or the bookseller herself).

For more information and details about applying for Homelessness Prevention or Funeral Expenses grants, booksellers should visit the Binc Financial Assistance page or call (866) 733-9064.
