Re-Authorizing A Credit Card

When a credit card is used to place an order on an IndieCommerce site, the card is authorized for about 4 weeks. Within that time, the card can be charged for the authorized amount on the order. However, there are two scenarios that will require a credit card to be re-authorized:

Givex Gift Cards

Givex is a third party company that ABA has partnered with for gift cards. They are the only third-party gift card that integrates with your IndieCommerce website in such a way that it can recognize the Givex card numbers, check the balance on a card, and thereby verify the payment at the time the order is placed.

NEW: As of 10/5 stores are now able to issue partial refunds to Givex Gift Cards (over $5.00) through their IndieCommerce website.

Authorize.net

ABA will be transitioning all IndieCommerce stores currently using ABA’s shared credit card processor off of ABA’s merchant account and onto their own credit card merchant account. As part of the process, stores will be required to create their own Authorize.net account. Many merchant service providers will help members with setting up their Authorize.net accounts, so check with the merchant service provider you currently use for in-store sales.

Online Gift Codes

This documentation was modified on 10/1/2021 to include new process for issuing partial refunds to online only giftcodes.

The IndieCommerce platform’s Online Only Gift Code feature is an integrated gift code feature that allows for the purchase, redemption, and management of an e-gift code system right within an IndieCommerce site.  This feature is a great alternative for stores that do not currently use Givex as their gift card provider.

Menus

A website navigation menu is a collection of links grouped together in a horizontal or vertical block. Menus are usually at the top of a website; menus can be added to the footer and side navigational bars as well.

Organized and easy-to-follow navigation for a website is very important for the overall user experience. When planning your menu, it’s important to keep in mind the information your users need to access quickly and frequently, and make those items clearly identifiable and accessible.

Store Features and Preferences

This documentation has been updated as of 9/30/2021 to reflect the layout changes we have made to the Store Preferences page and to include new settings that we have added.

Discount Coupons

Since there are so many different configuration options for coupon codes, it is easiest to explore this feature using examples.  The following examples are provided solely as illustrations of the coupon code functionality and are in no way recommendations.  We do not suggest what promotions or discounts any store should offer. Those business decisions are made solely by each individual bookstore.

GENERAL SETTINGS

Navigate to Store > Configuration > Coupon Module Settings

Shipping Methods

ABA does not recommend specific rates for shipping, and any value indicated below is simply for the purposes of illustration.

SELECT SHIPPING QUOTES

Navigate to: Store > Configuration > Shipping Quotes

Theme Key

You can change your site to a different Theme, that only you can see when logged into your account. This allows you to prepare a different Theme, while still displaying your current Theme to customers.

CHOOSE THEMES

Navigate to: Appearance (Admin bar)

Automatic Coupons For A Specific Role

Automatic Coupons are a convenient way to provide a discount for a group of people within a certain role without having to give out multiple coupon codes or requiring the user to enter a code each time. For the example below we are creating a ‘Automatic Coupon’ for people with the role of ‘Staff Member’.

Custom Checkout Email

This documentation was modified on 03/25/2019, with an updated method of creating order confirmation emails and invoices.

Gift Cards

You will need to request that ABA enable the ‘Gift Card’ module for you. You may do so by navigating to: Store > Configuration > Account Information and Preferences > Store Features scrolling to the ECOMMERCE section - check mark ‘Givex Gift Card*’ under ‘Enable This Feature’ and click the ‘Send request to ABA’ button.

Custom Products

When you first begin working with your IndieCommerce website you will have a single custom product class created by default called ‘ABA Product’. 'ABA Product' class covers ABA supplied books. However, you most likely sell other products in store and will wish to online as well. Product classes are the starting point for organizing those other items for sale as it’s going to contain all the information needed to sell and ship products on your website.
