ABFE Joins Amicus Brief American Booksellers for Free Expression (ABFE) has joined Penguin Random House, PEN America, and others in an amicus brief supporting a challenge of Temecula Valley Unified School District’s policies and actions to censor books. The brief argues that books play a central role in the lives of young Americans, that targeted works (disproportionately BIPOC and LGBTQ+ in themes and authorship) convey important ideas and information, and that the district’s censorship is part of a long and destructive history of US book bans. The Right to Read Handbook The final stop on The ABA Right to Read Handbook book tour will be tomorrow, October 10, at 5:30 pm CT, at Lion’s Tooth in Milwaukee, WI. Join us to learn about book bans, the harm they can do, and what we can do to stop them! FTC Lawsuit There was recent news about the FTC lawsuit against Amazon that might have caught your attention.
