Iowa Book Ban Update The Eighth Circuit delivered a mixed decision on the Iowa book ban law. It reversed the lower court’s decision to stop the law from going into effect while the case is heard. But there’s a significant silver lining: the court rejected the central argument of the State’s case, potentially a good sign for the ultimate fate of the law. ABA wrote an amicus brief in support of the case and continues to support the plaintiffs. Curating Your Shelves A reminder to booksellers: you alone decide what your store should carry, in-person and online. This includes if you decide you don’t want a book listed in your online inventory for any reason. That’s part of curation, which in turn is part of your First Amendment rights. If there are certain titles you’d prefer not to sell, that’s your choice. If you want to be an open conduit, that’s also your choice. Facilitating Banned & Diverse Book Donations Event Join ABA, Authors Against Book Bans, Red Wine & Blue, and others for an informational event on banned and diverse book donations. If you’re interested in letting your customers buy banned and diverse books that can be donated to book access organizations, this event is for you. Registration is required for attendance. |
