As part of the Unite Against Book Bans (UABB) coalition, American Booksellers for Free Expression (ABFE) kicked off National Library Week by celebrating Right to Read Day, a day of action for supporters to take a small step toward supporting the right to read. Even though the day of action has come and gone, it isn’t too late to support: on social media, Philomena demonstrated how to call your legislators, and you can learn more about this and other ways of supporting free expression on UABB’s Right to Read Day page. Your advocacy is sorely needed. More of the American Library Association’s 2023 data has been released, and the top five most-challenged books all have LGBTQ+ themes, showing the discriminatory nature of these bans. On the small business side, a reminder: ahead of the possible spring hearing on the Credit Card Competition Act, we are asking for testimonials on how credit card processing (“swipe”) fees have impacted your business. Please tell us about your experience by April 19 by emailing [email protected]. |
