Four Days Left to Complete ABACUS
 

There’s only a few days left until the July 23 deadline for this year’s ABACUS, ABA’s free financial benchmarking survey! 

Log in to ABACUSBenchmarking.com or refer to the email sent June 9 from [email protected] with the subject line “ABACUS Benchmarking Survey” to get started.

If you need help, check out our recorded ABACUS workshop, where you’ll find step-by-step instructions, or email ABA CFO PK Sindwani anytime before 8:00 pm ET on July 23 for assistance.

ABA is offering all participating stores a chance for a full scholarship to Winter Institute 2024. A drawing will be held once the deadline has passed.

There will be no extensions this year, so get started soon! You'll only need your tax return and/or trial balance, and year-to-date Z report from your POS.

Staff Changes at ABA
 

We're pleased to announce the following changes, promotions, and new hires:

After six years of incredible contributions to ABA, Daniel O’Brien has decided to move on. His last day as our Director of Membership will be August 4. We thank him for all his hard work and wish him all the best in his future endeavors! 

Congratulations to Ryan Quinn on her promotion to Director of Membership. 

“Having spent the last 8 years at ABA, first as part of the IndieCommerce team and more recently on the Membership team, I'm looking forward to venturing down this new path at an organization I've come to respect so much and for a member base that I value professionally and personally," said Quinn. "I'm excited to expand my role in supporting booksellers with the resources they need to strengthen their businesses and create the amazing spaces they are.” 

We are also happy to welcome Mariana Calderón, who will be joining ABA on July 25 as the new Member Relations and DEIA Manager. Mariana comes to us with many years of bookselling experience, most recently as manager at Savoy Bookshop & Cafe in Westerly, RI. She was a PW Star Watch honoree in 2021 and a Duende-WORD BIPOC Bookseller Award nominee in 2021 and 2022.
 
Ingram Updates on UPS Strike

In anticipation of a UPS work stoppage on August 1, Ingram recommends stocking up on inventory early. Regular Ingram orders should be made before July 25, and IPS customers should order before July 20. Ingram will be instituting Q4 seasonal credit line increases to assist.

Dave Grogan Rejoins Board of Media Coalition

ABFE Director Dave Grogan has rejoined the Board of the Media Coalition, an association that protects the First Amendment rights of producers and distributors of media, such as books, movies, and magazines, through its legislative advocacy and in the courts. The coalition meets monthly to discuss relevant legislation and lawsuits.
