Already know what you’re doing to celebrate the 10th IBD or planning a bookstore crawl? Submit your plans through our Google Form to share on IndieBound and with stores signed up to participate in Independent Bookstore Day. A master article will be shared in next week’s newsletter and updated as we receive submitted plans. IBD Spirit Week is back for year two! Thanks to member stores Chapters Books & Gifts, Book Rack Books & Gifts, and Bettie’s Pages for pitching an IBD Spirit Week. The idea is for stores and booksellers participating in IBD to come together as one leading up to the celebration and share the excitement! Reshare the list, use #BookstoreSpiritWeek, and tag others throughout the week to keep the energy going. Here are the themes for 2023’s IBD Spirit Week:- Monday, April 24: Silly Sock Day (A great day to run a sale on socks!)
- Tuesday, April 25: Plaid Tuesday
- Wednesday, April 26: On Wednesdays We Wear Bookstore Shirts
(A day to showcase other bookstores; tag that store on social media to show how we all support each other!) - Thursday, April 27: Book Character Dress-Up Day
- Friday, April 28: YOUR store’s Spirit Day
(Encourage customers to wear your store's shirt/etc. A great chance for them to buy some store merch if they don’t have it already, or to offer something fun.) - Want to offer custom designed Independent Bookstore Day T-Shirts? ABA members can claim a free custom design (one time only) from Bonfire, a free online platform where you can design, sell, fundraise with, and order custom products to build your bookseller brand. Email Taylor Soignoli at [email protected] to get started with your design and have your shirts ready to order before Independent Bookstore Day! To claim the free design, stores must customize the IBD logo t-shirt.
- Stores can also choose to order the pre-designed IBD apparel from Bonfire.
Blackwing Pencil Orders
Stores who ordered from Blackwing have started hearing from their sales team members named Abigail, Nick, Dee, or Annmarie. They will be confirming the order and shipping address along with notifying stores on what to expect (i.e., invoice, shipping, timeline) in the next two weeks. Blackwing orders must be paid prior to shipping. The IBD 2023 General Participation Form is still open!*
To only be included on the searchable map without any purchases, sign-ups are open through March 31, 2023. By completing the General Participation Form, your store is signing up to participate in Independent Bookstore Day. Booksellers must be a logged-in ABA member to access the form.
