If you weren't able to catch ABA Education at the Fall 2022 Regional Trade Shows, fear not! ABA is thrilled to present a virtual recording of Decoding the P&L for Booksellers, Managers, and Owners. Join CEO Allison Hill and Director of Education Kim Hooyboer on a walk-through of a bookstore Profit & Loss Statement as we lay a groundwork for understanding bookstore financials, decode individual line items to identify opportunities for improved profitability, discuss how to use ABA’s ABACUS Report, and consider ways to share financials with staff in a meaningful and cooperative manner.

Thank you to the 730 stores who ordered exclusives for IBD 2023! We are finalizing orders with Ingram and publishing partners and will have orders added to ipage® by early January. Note that Blackwing will contact stores directly to confirm quantities and determine invoicing and billing. All other exclusives will be backordered and charged to bookstores’ Ingram accounts in the Spring.

You can still sign up to participate by March 31, 2023 through the IBD 2023 General Participation Form and purchase T-Shirts through our Bonfire webpage through April 2023. You’ll also be able to use the marketing assets and be added to the IBD IndieBound searchable map in April.

The Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation kicked off its year-end campaign, Read, Love, Support, this week! Penguin Random House is partnering with Binc and will be generously matching all gifts dollar to dollar up to a total of $15,000. Donate and have your donation matched for great impact! Your donation gives those who work in book and comic stores a place to call for help when the unexpected happens and a financial hardship arises.

The Association of University Presses (AUPresses) has chosen “Next UP” as the theme for the 11th annual University Press Week, which runs from Monday, November 14, through Friday, November 18. On their site is a list of 11 suggested activities for booksellers who want to participate in UP Week 2022. The blog tour theme for Friday, November 18, is a shout-out to UPs' forward-thinking bookseller partners!

Congratulations to the 78 recipients of scholarships to the 2023 Winter Institute (Wi2023) in Seattle, Washington! The awards cover the conference fee, a 4-night stay at the host hotel, and up to $500 in travel expenses to the February 20–23 event at the Seattle Convention Center.

Bookstores can now download a low res digital version of the 2022 Children’s Group Best Books for Young Readers and a spreadsheet of the ISBNs for the titles featured in the catalog. The digital catalog is perfect to share in newsletters and includes an index of all titles for easy ordering by customers. Bookstores may also access the Edelweiss collection.
