The IBD 2023 Exclusives Order Form closes in one week! By ordering exclusives, your store is signing up to participate in Independent Bookstore Day. Booksellers must be a logged-in ABA member to access the form. If you do not know your login credentials, please email us at [email protected].

While the exclusives this year are intended for IBD on April 29, their shelf life can also assist with other literary events throughout the year since they are undated and not specific to 2023. Think Banned Books Week, Children’s Book Week, and your store’s special occasions.

Booksellers have been asking for exclusive book material the last few years. This year we’ve made great strides to offer several, including:

  • Little People, BIG DREAMS Amanda Gorman paperback offered only to indies until June
  • A signed paperback of Sheila Heti’s Pure Colour with a new short story as bonus material
  • An IBD exclusive anthology of short stories from the Tales of the Weird series
  • An indie-bookstores-only, exclusive edition of The Poet X with an exclusive letter from Elizabeth Acevedo
  • Jane Mount’s illustrated Bibliophile: Banned Books Puzzle only available through indie bookstores through Summer 2023.

Check out the digital catalog for the complete list of paid and free exclusives along with price points, images, and available quantity.nPlease note that several items in the catalog have limits on how many your store can order so that as many stores as possible can offer exclusives. Additionally, T-shirts and apparel are available for purchase on demand on the IBD Bonfire website.

There are two ways to participate in Independent Bookstore Day:

  • To purchase the exclusives and be included on the searchable map, sign up between October 21–November 11. You must purchase a minimum of 20 items (individually or bulk packaged — a bulk packaged item counts as one unit) in order to receive the freebies like bookmarks and stickers. Without the 20 paid item minimum, stores will pay the $6 flat rate shipping fee. Blackwing pencils and T-shirts do not count towards the 20-item minimum. 
  • To only be included on the searchable map without any purchases, sign-ups are open October 21, 2022–March 31, 2023.

Important Reminders:

  • An Ingram Ship To Account number is required. Set up an account at Ingram Onboarding.
  • Be sure to provide the shipping address (it may be different than the billing address).
  • If your store is in multiple locations, you must fill out a form for each store location (unless all ordered items can go to the main account’s location) or RDC.
  • There is a 20-item minimum needed for free shipping AND freebies. Free items, Blackwing Pencils and T-shirts do not count towards the 20-item minimum. Without the 20 paid item minimum, stores will pay the $6 flat rate shipping fee.
  • Due to supply chain issues we will not be changing orders after the closing date of November 11. 
  • Independent Bookstore Day is open to those who are members of the ABA, as well as their regional booksellers association.

  • March 15, 2023: IBD Bookmarks arrive at bookstores in Box Mailing
  • March 31, 2023: General Participation Form closes
  • April 3, 2023: IBD Searchable Map goes live on IndieBound
  • Early- to Mid-April: Stores receive exclusives
  • April 24–28, 2023: IBD Spirit Week
  • April 29, 2023: Independent Bookstore Day
