Friday, April 22, is your last chance to sign up to receive a free Banned Books Week kit! Bookstores that signed up to receive the 2021 kit last year will automatically receive the 2022 kit (no action required).

Banned Books Week kits are sent annually to participating stores and include materials to decorate your store and educate customers about the freedom to read. Supplies are limited and are fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. We ask that each bookstore branch fill out its own form. Online-only stores and international stores are NOT eligible to receive kits.

This is your last chance to win a Ci10 scholarship for reporting sales! ABA member stores on qualifying Point of Sale systems have been sent instructions in recent weeks. Stores that make the required changes before April 26, 2022 will be entered into the Ci10 drawing.

There is a real pathway to pass the Twenty-First Century Antitrust Act — a bill that would place New York at the forefront of a movement to create a fair, open market for independent businesses — but we need your help! Please note this is only for New York bookstores. If your store is not in New York, please do not sign the letter.

The National Retail Federation is offering a free trip to the Retail Advocates Summit in D.C. for retail champions to share their stories with leading policymakers and advocate for small businesses. The most passionate small retailers will have the opportunity to network with members of Congress and retail industry leaders from large and small brands.

Reminder: Last month, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced an additional 6-month deferment for COVID Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL), increasing the total deferment period from 24 months to 30 months. The deferment extension is effective for all COVID EIDLs approved in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Since interest will continue to accrue on the loans during the deferment, bookstores that are able to are encouraged to make partial or full payments during the deferment period. Learn how to manage your EIDL, including monitor the status of your COVID EIDL, make payments, and request a loan increase.
