Based on that fact and feedback the Board received from members that the language wasn't clear, the Board considered new language to submit to members at its January meeting and voted 11 yes, 0 no, and 1 abstention to present the new language to the membership. In a subsequent meeting, the Board voted to revoke their internal vote because they felt there had not been enough discussion based on the abstention. Bylaws are the foundation of ABA's governance. Given that importance, the Board wants to ensure that full consideration has been given to these changes, and that the language is as clear as possible. The Board will be discussing this topic further at the May meeting before returning to the membership. |
