The most important part of yesterday was the Town Hall. There was a lot of information shared; meaningful discussion had; pain, anger, and frustration that needed to be expressed and heard; and calls for action. Thank you to those who contributed questions, comments, and concerns, and, most of all, to those who shared their experiences. I left the meeting with a lot of notes to inform the work the ABA is doing but my biggest takeaway was the need for ABA to support BIPOC-owned bookstores and BIPOC booksellers, and the ABA team has already started conversations about next steps to that end and will be sharing those next steps in the coming weeks. As mentioned in the Annual Meeting, we do have some housekeeping to attend to: We did not reach quorum for the proposed bylaws change vote that was announced at the beginning of the pandemic, so we need to vote again. The election starts today, and members have until Thursday, June 18, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. PT to vote. If you have questions about the bylaws change, please feel free to email ABA or any ABA board member. Please vote! |
