This week, BookExpo America announced that, for the first time, the show’s author appearances will be available to the public for viewing live and on demand. Patti Smith and Jimmy Fallon have been added to the list of authors at the show.

The June 6 Children’s Art Auction at BEA will provide added excitement this year when live bidding opens on several rare items.  An online preview of more than 70 mostly silent auction items is now live.

The rich literary culture of Russia will be the focus of BEA’s Global Market Forum programming, which kicks off on Monday, June 4, at the Javits Convention Center. In conjunction with BEA, Read Russia 2012 will be hosting a weeklong festival of special events promoting contemporary Russian authors.

Carol Fitzgerald, president of ReadingGroupGuides, will moderate a speed-dating session at BEA designed to give booksellers and librarians a sneak peek at upcoming titles that will be natural book group picks.

ABA has extended registration for the Children’s Institute at BookExpo America until May 11. An additional but limited number of spaces at the June 6 day-long event are now open exclusively to booksellers at ABA member stores; they are expected to sell out quickly.

Provisional booksellers and employees of regular member stores can still register for ABA’s free, full-day seminar “How to Succeed at Retail Bookselling: Introduction to the Bookstore Business,” to be held on Sunday, June 3 — the day before ABA’s Day of Education and the opening of BookExpo America.
