The American Booksellers Association has announced the promotion of key staff members on the association’s content and membership teams.

Upon receipt of valid petitions, additional director candidates will be added to the ballot alongside the four candidates put forth by the ABA Nominating Committee and approved by the Board at its January meeting.

As events are scheduled, Glory Edim, who launched Well-Read Black Girl in 2015, will promote indie bookstores on her social media platform and encourage followers to ask their local store to host a book club.

Under ABA’s Bylaws, any bookstore member may submit petitions to have the names of additional candidates for Board officers and/or directors added to the ballot for the upcoming election.

Stores that sign on to host book clubs will receive a window display kit from Random House and be featured on an interactive online map of indie bookstores hosting events.

“The five former presidents here represent a long line of former booksellers who have served as ABA President, and we’re delighted that of the five who are here, they represent those who are still in the business,” said ABA CEO Oren Teicher.

Well-Read Black Girl, founded by Glory Edim, provides a vital space for black female readers and writers to connect and grow in conversation.
