In a notable achievement, independent presses carved out five of the 10 slots for books nominated by independent booksellers for the Book Sense Poetry 76 Top Ten list, released late February in advance of April's National Poetry Month. The presses include Seven Stories, Holy Cow! Press, BOA Editions, Copper Canyon, and Graywolf.

Authors Guild to Writers: De-Link to Amazon; BookSense.com the Way to Go

A long-simmering dispute between the Authors Guild and Amazon.com returned to the news when the organization e-mailed over 5,000 members encouraging them to remove links from the authors’ Web sites to Amazon.com. The Authors Guild acted after Amazon.com stepped up its marketing efforts for its "Amazon Marketplace" program, where consumers can sell used books, CDs, and other items. The guild has over 8,000 members, and more than 700 of them have Web sites.

Record 500+ Authors Featured at BEA Autographing Program

BookExpo America show management announced this week that over 500 authors have agreed to participate in BEA’s highly popular autographing program, an annual convention tradition. The autographing program features over 30 authors signing books at one place, and at one time, for 30-minute or one-hour signing sessions all day, each day of the show. BEA’s autographing area will be located on the first floor of the exhibition hall of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, and will be open on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4.
