Banning Books Silences Stories: Banned Books Week

The Banned Books Week Coalition is offering new tools and resources to help booksellers prepare for this year’s celebration of the freedom to read, to be held September 23–29. This year’s theme is “Banning Books Silences Stories,” a reminder that everyone needs to speak out against the tide of censorship.

The Banned Books Week Coalition, an alliance of organizations joined by a commitment to the right to read, seeks to engage various communities and inspire participation in Banned Books Week through education, advocacy, and programming about the problem of book censorship.

The newly available resources can be found at bannedbooksweek.org and will aid booksellers, publishers, librarians, teachers, and readers in participating in the celebration. Resources include an events calendar, programming ideas, downloadable posters and shelf-talkers, and print and digital materials that booksellers can use to promote their Banned Books Week events.

More resources will become available in the coming weeks. Booksellers can visit bannedbooksweek.org or follow the Banned Books Week Coalition on Twitter to receive the latest Banned Books Week and censorship news.
