A Roundup of Publisher Support Programs for New Indie Bookstores

Booksellers can visit the American Booksellers Association’s Book Buyer’s Handbook online to find information about publisher programs aimed at supporting new bookstores opening in the independent channel.

Four publishers currently offer support program details in the Handbook:

  • Hachette Book Group — 2017 New Store Opening Offer
  • HarperCollins — New Bookstore Development Program
  • Houghton Mifflin Harcourt — New Store Opening Offer
  • Macmillan — New U.S. Retail Book Store Opening Policy

Links to these publishers’ policies are listed on the “Publisher Offers for New Stores” page in the Book Buyer’s Handbook (a username and password are required to access the Handbook; booksellers who need login information can e-mail [email protected]).

As the Book Buyer’s Handbook is a valued resource for indie booksellers, publishers are encouraged to share details about new store support programs for inclusion by contacting Senior Program Officer Joy Dallanegra-Sanger.
