Farewell to Our Good Friend: Alison Greene

Alison GreeneAlison E. Greene, wife of ABA CEO Oren Teicher, died on October 2, 2017. She is survived by her children, Carrie (husband David, children Franklin and Daniel), Jessica (wife Emily, daughter Maya), and Zachary (wife Anne, daughter Lia), as well as a large extended family.

Greene, a friend to many in the book industry, was an accomplished attorney, public servant, and activist. She served as a court attorney referee in New York State Family Court; general counsel to the New York State Senate; director of Operation Assist for the Children’s Health Fund; executive director for the Westchester County Human Rights Commission; regional director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and attorney-in-charge for the civil division of the Legal Aid Society of Westchester. She was also known for her work with the political campaigns of Bill and Hillary Clinton, and she served as a chair for the White Plains Democratic Committee.

A passionate reader, Greene, together with her husband, had visited ABA member bookstores across the country, and she was a friend to scores of booksellers and others in the industry. Over the years, they regularly welcomed visiting booksellers into their home.

She was a board chair for Bet Am Shalom Synagogue, where her funeral services took place on October 3. The family observed shiva at Greene and Teicher’s home in White Plains, New York, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The family will continue to receive condolence visits as follows:

Wednesday evening after 7:30 p.m.
Thursday afternoon, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and evening, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Saturday evening
Sunday during the day and evening
