Loganberry Books Finds Unique Way to Celebrate Women’s History Month

Illustrating the fiction gender gap at Loganberry BooksCleveland, Ohio’s Loganberry Books is celebrating Women’s History Month (March) by reversing every male-authored book on the store’s shelves, Heat Street reported. The all-female staff at the bookstore spent two hours turning around titles in the 10,000-book collection and that is how they’ll remain for two weeks.

“Pictures are loud communicators,” owner Harriett Logan told Heat Street. “So we are in essence not just highlighting the disparity but bringing more focus to the women’s books now, because they’re the only ones legible on the shelf.”

Logan, who came up with the idea, said the visual impact of turning around all male-authored books was greater than she expected. “To give the floor and attention to women, you need to be able to hear them,” Logan said. “And if someone else is talking over them, that just doesn’t happen.”
