The workshop “Introduction to Retail Bookselling” will offer a crash course in critical aspects of bookstore ownership and management for new and prospective booksellers on Sunday, February 8, prior to the Winter Institute.

ABA has announced the winner of the grand prize in the 2015 Winter Institute T-shirt design contest.

In response to the extraordinary popularity of the Grove Park Inn, the 2015 Winter Institute host hotel, ABA has launched an online forum for potential room-sharing arrangements among booksellers.

With the recent release of the paperback edition of Stephen Jimenez’s controversial The Book of Matt: Hidden Truths About the Murder of Matthew Shepard, ABFFE President Chris Finan reflects on the failed efforts to force 23 bookstores to cancel their events for the book last year and announces plans for an ABFFE program at Winter Institute.

The newest addition to the list of keynote presenters for the 10th anniversary of the Winter Institute is Azar Nafisi, author of the national bestseller Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books, the winner of the 2004 Book Sense Book of the Year Award for nonfiction.

Registration and hotel reservations for Winter Institute 2015 opened last Thursday, September 18, and sold out in record time. Waitlists are now forming for both.

Registration for ABA’s 10th anniversary celebration of the Winter Institute and the ABA room block at the Grove Park Inn (an Omni Resort) are now booked to capacity and waiting lists are forming.

Asheville and the Grove Park Inn provide a unique, fun, and rewarding setting for the Winter Institute’s 10th anniversary. While getting there may be a little bit more challenging than flying into a hub city, there are a number of options that can lessen the cost and the complications.

The owners and staff at all ABA member stores are invited to cast their votes for a design to be featured on T-shirts at Winter Institute 10.

The Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance is looking for hosts for SHOP (the Southern Hospitality Overnight Program), an effort to provide travel alternatives for booksellers from other parts of the country who are planning to attend the 2015 Winter Institute in Asheville, North Carolina.

ABA’s design contest celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Winter Institute will continue to accept entries from member booksellers until next Friday, September 5.
