Author, Author!....
I'm not the first person to write about author blogs this week. Bookseller Chick started on Friday, discussing the value of authors who blog. Wiley publisher Joe Wikert took up the topic on Wednesday.
Let me just say that I despise the phrase "Web 2.0." This is the only time you'll see it appear in one of my posts. But I love the fact that some of my favorite authors now have ongoing conversations with their readers. In Laurie R. King's case, she's even made her blog readers semi-participants in editing her new book, due out in December. For a week she wrote about the process of copy editing, occasionally asking for help deciding between her phrasing and the editor's. Since some of the commenters provided more substantial help with Cornish dialect, the acknowledgments section of Touchstone will thank "Annie, Carlina, Corgimom, Dave, Kerry, and Phil the Badger." Tell me that's not worth it.
Sarah Miller's blog is an adventure in vicarious living. She's not only a bookseller, at Halfway Down the Stairs, she also just published her first novel. I can dream, can't I? (Still can't get enough of Sarah? Check out her recommendation in the Book Sense Children's Picks!)
Jacqueline Winspear shares a blog (and a great URL) with five other authors, who I must admit I hadn't heard of before discovering their blog - yet another benefit of author blogging. (Now I just have to get my hands on one of those ARCs...)
I take no responsibility for increased procrastination rates, so follow these links at your own risk:
